MAB - One of Mobile’s Oldest and Most Respected Non-profit Organizations
Mobile Association for the Blind was founded in 1926, and has been a staple in the community ever since. We have been a United Way Partner Agency for more than thirty years, and a member of the Alabama Coalition of Nonprofits since its founding.
In October 2011, MAB received three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The accreditation process is meant to assure the public that organizations have made a commitment to continually enhance the quality of services and programs and that organizations focus on the satisfaction of the persons served.
For more than 85 years, MAB’s focus has been on the people to whom we provide services. We provide a caring, family-like atmosphere where people enjoy coming to work. Many of our staff members have been employed at MAB for over 20 years. In fact, one of our employees, Miss Thelma, has been making and processing MAB brooms for 60 years!
Thelma’s brooms, as well as mops, cleaners, and dust-mops, are being used throughout the area. We supply these and other cleaning products to many state agencies, municipalities, and schools in South Alabama.
